Project sketches

A Documentation as a single project came about through a lot of interviews with the
founder of the 'Komm in die Gänge Projekt' in Winter 2009.

For over a year I walk every day through the Gängeviertel on the way to work. The grotesque contrast between this wild district and the usual perfect cityscape irritated and fascinated me at the same time. On one side stands out for me the urban district, which is characterized by the break-up of the houses and the beauty of old factories and facades. On the other hand there are many people who want to revive this place looking for a roof over their head or a wall to express their creativity. By sheer coincidence I then learned of the plans of the city and of burgeoning protests of the "Come into gear". With the time, my interest grew steadily, and the idea was born, to summarise and document the situation and what happened through the design of a book. For this I developed a list of questions and asked people who had directly or indirectly involved in the initiative. With the questionnaire I would like to transfer the events with corresponding supports by texts and artwork into a new individual context. The aim is not only to document the scope and meaning of the Gänge- Viertel- Project. Rather, I would like to question the current setting of my interlocutors on the role of art in society as well as their motivations for participating in this project. From the wealth of interviews I selected eight conversations for this creation. In that every single interlocutor describes the value and the importance of Gängeviertel from his perspective. A major role play the motives of my interlocutors and the terms of their participation in this promotion. With the help of this book I would like to present the views of different people and at the same time encourage the reader to reflect and think. I dedicate this book to all the people who maintain this initiative, the void is filled with life and have made it a place of intercultural exchange.
